The Isle Evrima Mutations Guide
The full mutation system explained — what mutations are, how they happen, and how to manage them across the 44 official mutations in The Isle: Evrima v0.7.35.
What are mutations?
In The Isle: Evrima, a mutation is a permanent modifier your dino acquires during its life. Some are beneficial (faster regen, increased stamina, slower hunger drain). Some are harmful (muscle spasms, blindness, infertility). They cannot be removed mid-life. Mutations persist if you /storedino and reclaim later.
Each mutation has a trigger — usually a combination of diet imbalance, dehydration, low health over time, or a random roll on specific actions like eating spoiled meat.
How mutations trigger
- Diet imbalance: Eating only one food macro for an extended period triggers diet-related mutations (infertility, muscle issues).
- Dehydration: Letting thirst fall below 25% repeatedly increases risk of organ-system mutations.
- Damaged meat: Eating spoiled or diseased corpses can cause poison or infection mutations.
- Random rolls: Some mutations roll at maturity milestones (subadult, adult) with a baseline chance.
- Environmental: Cold zones, high altitude, and certain map regions raise specific risk classes.
Beneficial mutations (selected highlights)
- Iron Hide: +10% damage resistance.
- Marathon Lungs: +15% sprint stamina.
- Efficient Metabolism: −15% hunger drain rate.
- Strong Heart: +10% HP cap.
- Sharp Senses: +20% scent and sound radius.
- Reniculate Kidneys: Rare. Massive water-efficiency boost. (Server achievement on Jurassic Isle of Exo)
Harmful mutations to avoid
- Muscle Spasms: Periodic forced movement interrupts; ruins combat and stealth.
- Infertility: Cannot breed. Critical if you play nest mechanics.
- Blindness: Severe sight reduction; almost a forced restart.
- Brittle Bones: +20% damage taken from fall and impact.
- Slow Healer: −30% HP regen rate.
- Glass Stomach: Random chance to vomit food, wasting hunger gain.
How to manage mutations
- Eat balanced: Hit all of your dino's preferred macros at least once per day.
- Drink often: Never let thirst fall below 50% if avoidable.
- Skip spoiled meat: Look at the corpse colour — green tints are spoiled.
- Heal before sleeping: Spending the night at low HP raises mutation risk.
- Store before risk: If you must do something dangerous, /storedino the clean version first.
