The Isle: Evrima
Everything a new or returning player needs to know about The Isle: Evrima — the survival dinosaur game from Afterthought LLC. Updated for patch v0.7.35.
What is The Isle: Evrima?
The Isle: Evrima is the modern, in-development branch of the survival dinosaur game The Isle, originally released into Steam Early Access in 2015 by Afterthought LLC. Evrima reworks the original game from the ground up — new combat, new AI, new map (Gateway), new growth and diet systems, and a new player progression model centred on the Prime status and Elder kill chain.
Players spawn as a fragile juvenile and must find food, water, and shelter while avoiding apex carnivores. Death is permanent for that specific dino, but every dino you grow contributes to your account-level progress on a given server. The game is multiplayer-first; almost everything interesting happens because of how you interact with other players.
How do I get The Isle: Evrima?
The Isle is a paid Early Access title on Steam (App ID 376210). Once you own the game, both the legacy and Evrima branches are included — you switch between them from the in-game main menu. Evrima is the only branch still receiving updates.

Core gameplay loop
- Spawn as a juvenile in a safe zone (sanctuary). You are vulnerable.
- Eat the right diet — every species needs specific food types in roughly balanced ratios. Diet directly drives growth speed.
- Drink water regularly. Thirst will kill you faster than hunger.
- Avoid apex carnivores until you are at least 60% grown.
- Migrate to a new zone every so often — visiting different zones counts towards Prime conditions.
- Achieve Prime by meeting at least 5 of 10 conditions during your dino's life.
- Hunt or be hunted. Adult carnivores need to feed; adult herbivores need to defend.
- Die. Permanently, for that dino. Start again as a juvenile of any species you have unlocked.
Key systems
- Diet: Each species has a list of preferred food types; eating outside that list slows growth.
- Mutations: Random and diet-driven modifiers, some beneficial, some harmful — see our mutations guide.
- Prime: A status that unlocks stat boosts and the Elder kill chain — see our Prime guide.
- Growth: Continuous from 0% to 100%. Many community servers gate features (storage, breeding) by growth percentage.
- Map (Gateway): The current Evrima map — see the map guide.
- Combat: Stamina-based melee. Bigger animals deal more damage but have slower attack windups.
Public servers vs. official servers
Most experienced Evrima players spend the majority of their time on community-run public servers rather than the official roster. Community servers add features the base game does not have: persistent dino storage, custom skins, a player-driven economy, in-game roleplay events, Discord integration, and active moderation against grief play.
See our server comparison for the most popular public Evrima servers, or skip ahead to How to Join our server (Jurassic Isle of Exo) directly.
